My shifu, Zheng Mingxing, has many martial arts teachers, Ma Zhenzong is the only person who he called shifu.
Ma Zhenzong (马振宗, 1910 – 1993), from Jiaxing City of Zhejiang Province, was a lawyer at Shanghai City, as he lived near Shanghai Chin Woo Athletic Federation, he was able to learned various style of martial arts from Chin Woo, including Shaolinquan, Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Sanda, Qinna, weaponry, etc. Ma also studied Nanquan form Liu Desheng (刘德生, 1875 – 1969) in Shanghai.
Ma Zhenzong switched his focus of martial arts practice from external martial arts to internal when he reached his middle age. Although my shifu, Zheng Mingxing learned Xingyiquan and Baguazhang from Ma Zhenzong, Ma was well-known with his Taijiquan skill which he inherited from Ding Ranqing (丁然清, Ye Dami‘s student).
Ma Zhenzong trained and taught martial arts at the People’s Park (Renmin Gongyuan) of Jiaxing City even after his retirement. Ma had taught thousands of students throughout his martial arts career, most of today’s martial arts veterans of Jiaxing City were directly or indirectly benefited from Ma. Zheng Mingxing (郑明星, skilled in Xingyiquan), Mei Yi (梅一, skilled in Taijiquan and Chaquan), Cai Guangqi (蔡光祈, skilled in Taijiquan, current president of Jiaxing Wushu Association) and Xu Yufan (徐悦范, skilled in Taijiquan) are some of Ma’s students.
