This video clip of Mei Yi’s Taiji Shebian (Snake-Whip) demo was filmed at Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, China during summer 2007.
About Mei Yi
Mei Yi (梅一, 1928 – ) is a senior of my sifu, Zheng Mingxing, who studied Chaquan, Ye Style Taijiquan and Xingyiquan under Ma Zhenzong (马振宗, 1910 – 1993). Mei was well known with his Chaquan at a younger age, he switched his focus from external martial arts to Taijiquan as his age was getting older. Mei Yi is the one and only person who masters the “becoming extinct Martial Art” of Taiji Shebian. Mei Yi is currently teaching Taijiquan at an open mall (early morning before the shops open for business, as seen in this video clip) of Jiaxing city every morning.
About Taiji Snake Whip
- Taiji Snake Whip uses the weapon Jiujiebian (Nine-Section-Whip).
- Snake Whip as per its name which the tip of the Jiujiebian acts like a snake, it is not the ordinary practice of swinging the whip.
- The attacks of the Snake Whip utilize the body to cover the whip and, with a sudden, the sharp tip appear behind the shoulders, head, etc. and shoot to its target.
- Taiji Snake Whip is extremely difficult to master and dangerous in training. Mai Yi trained Taiji Shebian with his full pilot uniform on including helmet during his air focus days.
