Liu Dianchen (刘殿琛), from Shen County of Hebei Province, is Liu Qilan’s second son. He was also known as Liu Wenhua (刘文华). Liu trained in Xingyiquan at young age under the guardianship of his father, Liu Qilan (刘奇兰, 1819 – 1889).
Liu Dianchen was a professional martial artist, he has taught in different army troops and numerous martial arts associations including the Chinese Warrior Association founded by Li Cunyi (李存义, 1847 -1921). Liu Dianchen has taught thousands of students throughout his martial arts teaching career. Liu has written a book named “Micro-definition of the art of Xingyiquan” (形意拳术抉微) which was published in 1920.
Liu Dianchen was involved in many fights, he has accidentally killed another martial artist with Bengquan. Liu secluded himself at Inner Mongolia after the incident, he became a monk at Wutai Shan (Mount Wutai) in his later years and passed away there.
