Born in 1983, in Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia, Laid has an great passion in martial arts and combat sport. Laid started martial arts training in Karate at age 12, he turned into Tae Kwon Do in 1997 and obtained his second dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2003.
Over the years, Laid has entered almost all Tae Kwon Do Competition around his areas. He is both state (Sabah) and national (Malaysia) representative in the sport of Tae Kwon Do.
Laid has entered the Ultimate Warrior Competition, a kickboxing event organized by The Youth & Sport Ministry of Malaysia, in 2007. At a height of 5 feet 3 inches (160cm) and barely 130 pound (60kg) in body weight, Laid fought much bigger opponents (at the 57-75kg weight class) at the tournament and came second in his group.
Laid’s martial arts background is not limited to Karate and Tae Kwon Do, he also skilled in Taijiquan and Xingyiquan. He has represented Huang (Huang Xingxian, 黄性贤) Style Taijiquan of Sabah to participate in both national and international events, he was the runner-ups in Taiji Gun (staff) and Taiji Qiang (spear) events.
Laid was introduced to the art of Xingyiquan by me (Dennis) in June 2006 and he has practiced Xingyiquan constantly since then.
