I watched it now – both parts are in the 16 min video clip. The one clip contains both parts, there is no separate part two clip. You have repeated the same clip twice.

I’d like to join the Xinyi workshop.

My intention was to let Vivian to participate in either Aikido or gymnastic (there isn’t any Judo class around here), the reasons being both teach you how to fall correctly (how to protect yourself in a falling situation).

In my humble opinion, since you have a Judo background, it is more fun to teach your son how to fall and roll on the ground rather than throwing some kicks and punches.

My son is 4, nearly 5 and I have been teaching him (trying) Xing Yi, so far just San Ti, Pi and Zuan. I find it quite difficult to hold his attention so was thinking of trying to find a childrens martial arts class. I’m not too worried what it is as long as he learns something and the teacher seems good.

I myself learnt Judo and Shaolin Wushu as a child, and am sure they set me up with a good foundation for other things.

I think Aikido is perfect for a young girl to learn, graceful.

Well, It all depends on your character when it comes to choosing a martial art, which is best fit your character, which is easier for you to fall in love with. Your body type or athletic ability or previous martial arts background are not relevant at all, if you love the art chosen, you will put more afford, spend more time and willing to sacrifice in order to excel in it. You will also be far more enjoy your training and your life.

My recommendation is if you are a beginner, you should consider taking up Xingyiquan, it is easier for a beginner to break in. It also requires a much longer time to gain martial or self defense ability in Taijiquan. Since you are an experienced martial artist, your background should be able to cover the martial side while you are in the incubating stage of your Taijiquan practice. As I mentioned above, you should pick the one you are more likely to fall in love with, you will have more fun and much more enjoy your training.

Well, when I watched my first move, the Santishi, I wanna slap myself immediately, the body should not “sink” with the downwards strike, instead it should “raise upwards” (it is just a intent, it should not be an exaggeration up rise movement as in Japanese sword chopping moves, you should get what I mean here).

I have to admit that I do have a tendency of showmanship with the camera, you can clearly see that I did over doing it (over extending my strikes and body forwards) on the first few Piquan, if it was at a public demo or street fight, I should be in a lot of trouble. My other weak points include my body, hands and feet coordination was way off, my posture was poor and some bad habits.

I felt damn good about myself until I watched this video… well, back to the drawing board, damn…

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there are many martial artists out here who think Xingyiquan is ugly. I was constantly being asked why I chose Xingyiquan? My reply was I don’t know, it just like I love my wife and get married with her, I can’t figure out the reason until today, lol.

The reasons behind retracting the front leg are:
1. to training the co-ordination between the arms and legs;
2. there is a backwards movement hiding in it, if you observed closely, you will notice the retracted feet were touched the ground at all, it is free to move backwards and deliver a strike at the same time, similar to the backwards Beng in the Five-Element-Linking-Form.

Thank you very much. At my advanced age of 57, I finally discoverd Xing Yi thru a Taiji instructor Ive been studying with. Got me very intrigued, and it gives me a chance to work with my 9-year old kids, with an easier-to-learn martial art that can lead to taiji in time. I will be ordering the VCD from the link as soon as I can.
