Bu Xuekuan (布学宽, 1876 – 1971), a.k.a. Bu Zirong (布子容), was one of the top students of Che Yizhai (车毅斋, 1833 – 1915). Bu was an influential martial artist in China who played a significant role in the promotion and development of Shanxi martial arts.
Bu Xuekuan was born at Qi county, Shanxi Province. Bu started martial arts training in 1891. He resided to Taigu county in 1893. Bu Xuekuan began his Xingyiquan training under Che Yizhai in 1900.
Bu Xuekuan opened his first martial arts school at the rural area of Taigu county in 1913. Since then, Bu has never looked back in his martial arts teaching career, he has been teaching Che Yizhai Style Xingyiquan for also 60 years. Bu Xuekuan is undeniably the greatest contributer of Che Style Xingyiquan in becoming one of the widely spread Xingyiquan style.
Bu Xuekuan had held numerous high post at martial arts institutes and associations in county, provincial and national level over his life time. Although there isn’t any record of Bu’s combat abilities, his huge contribution to the martial arts and Xingyiquan world should be saluted by all Chinese martial arts and Xingyiquan practitioners.
